The Boston Tea Company is one of this little teapot’s faves, not just because of the teas, but because of the camaraderie. They are always so nice to me and my humans on Twitter and Facebook, even when we may not totally like the tea we’re reporting on. (Several other vendors are like that, too, and we here, both teapots and humans, greatly appreciate them as well.)
The label says this is a tea from the Fujian Province of China. Most likely it is Pai Mu Tan (Bai Mu Dan, White Peony). We saw a chunk or two of what we assumed to be dried tangerine. The aroma of the dry tea was fruity/floral/nutty. We had high hopes for a tasty treat.
Tea Gang member Blue Flower Teapot, a fine bone china beauty, was selected to do the steeping honors. There was something about the name “Tropical Tangerine” that seemed to lend itself to such delicacy and refinement. She steeped the tea for one minute in water that wasn’t quite boiled, per the vendor’s instructions.
Time to try the tea.
The liquid was a lovely golden color with an aroma that was a balance of floral, fruit, and tea nuttiness. Unfortunately, the flavor was heavily dominated by the floral, with little or no tangerine, which disappointed us teapots and our humans as well. We’ve had this sample awhile, so the blenders at The Boston Tea Company may have revised the mixture. No matter, though. It does go to show, as we’ve said before, that the aroma of the dry tea (the flavored kind, that is) is not always what you get taste wise when it’s steeped. Keep it in mind when shopping at one of those teashops full of those wonderfully smelling flavored teas.
